Filter AI ("Filter," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Filter mobile application and the website at getfilter.ai (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, display name, and a hashed version of your password. We never store passwords in plain text.
Content you subscribe to. We store the podcast feeds, YouTube channels, and other sources you add so we can fetch and display content for you.
Highlights and notes. Any highlights or notes you create are stored in your account so you can access them across devices.
Usage data. We collect anonymous analytics (via PostHog) such as screen views and feature usage to improve the product. We also use Sentry for crash reporting.
Device information. We may collect your device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging and compatibility purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Fetch and deliver content from your subscribed sources
- Generate AI-powered summaries, reports, and chat responses
- Send transactional emails (e.g., password resets)
- Monitor for bugs, crashes, and security incidents
3. AI Features and Third-Party Data Sharing
Filter uses third-party AI services to power intelligent features including Copilot chat, summaries, topic tagging, and research reports.
What data is sent. When you use an AI-powered feature, the content relevant to your request — such as your messages, article text, transcript excerpts, and highlights — is transmitted to our AI providers.
Who receives it. Your data is sent to third-party AI model providers via OpenRouter. Currently, this includes Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini). These providers process your data solely to generate responses and do not retain it for training purposes.
How it is used. AI services are used to generate chat responses, article summaries, topic tags, and research reports. Your data is not used to train AI models.
Your control. The app requests your explicit consent before sending any data to AI services. You can review your consent status and revoke it at any time in the app's Settings under "AI Data & Privacy." If you revoke consent, AI-powered features will be disabled until you re-consent.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, error tracking, AI providers)
- Law enforcement if required by law or to protect our rights
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which permanently removes your data from our servers.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and secure token-based authentication. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the effective date.
